LAN PARTY ADVENTURES

PROBLEM:

LEAP had a dream to launch a game about LAN Parties in the early 2000s. But they needed help to express their vision in a way that connected with the audience.

SOLUTION:

I helped them develop new branding, tone of voice, and key art which gave the game more energy and adventure and clearly placed it in the early 2000s era. I also gave direction on their UI design.

ROLE:

Creative Director, Writer

THE KEY ART

I wanted to capture the essence of a LAN party without resorting to showing computers - as this was making things cold and uninviting. A LAN Party is about the friends, the fun, the gaming, and the fuel of drinks and snacks. I sketched out the mess of a LAN party bathed in the light of monitors, suggesting the energy and adventure that lay beyond the frame and added little clues to the narrative within the image. We then worked with an illustrator to bring it to life.

As the key art is also made of stuff around the frame, it is adaptable to different sizes and shapes - the mess just moves around.

THE LOGO

We went through multiple approaches to the logo, but we arrived at a version that expressed a sense of youthful, fun and adventure, combining a hand drawn touch with a little LAN party detail with the cable and slight chromatic aberration.

MARKETING

I also wrote the language for the Steam page and developed the script and direction for their teaser trailer.
